About the Real Yellow Fever Outbreak

During the real Yellow Fever outbreak of 1793 5,000 people in Philadelphia died. The population was only 50,000 so 1/10 people died. The doctors didn't know that the disease was being spread by mosquitoes. During winter, the mosquitoes died which stopped the Fever from spreading further. Bush Hill was a real place where doctors helped people during the epidemic. The Free African society also helped people during the epidemic. However, the Africans were not immune and they had the same death rate. Other states didn't help but New York gave money to Philadelphia during the epidemic. Dr. Benjamin Rush was also real and he was the one who found out the Yellow fever was being spread first. 20,000 people left the state during this time.
